Xiamen Trip Day 1

Day 1

Much to our disappointment, we weren't taking Singapore Airlines! We took Air China, the seats were pretty cramped, there weren't much leg space and there was no personal television! But oh well, we settled for it (there wasn't much of a choice, was there?)

I nearly died of hunger during the 4 hour flight, but, thankfully, the breakfast on the plane was delish. (: I loved how the cheese when melted with the scrambled egg made the the meal a lot tastier [:

With the super mini television that was shared by 9 passengers, I managed to squint my eyes to watch Hua Mulan while the rest of my friends were dozing off on the plane (: Surprisingly, it was a nice show as it was one of those shows that I refused to watch while it was previewing in Singapore. The show speaks of sacrifice and selfless love. Hua Mulan's lover had to forgo his love with Hua Mulan so that he could get married with the other rival country's princess.

Anyways, moving on! We finally reached Xiamen Airport! Boy oh boy, the whole tour group was pleasantly surprised by the cooling temperature. Initially, we were expecting bone-chilling temperature, but it was just right.

My Xiamen Partner, Limin!

We got pretty excited, taking photos of everything (seriously, everything) we saw on the coach. But it's pretty normal, I guess, a foreigner in a country she has never been to.

We went for lunch at the seafood restaurant. Ha, every single meal we had, we were always presented with a huge huge huge (huge!) bowl of rice. There was not a single meal that the tour group could finish. I mean, even the guys could not finish the food given to them.

In the toilet at the restaurant, you could hear all the girls squealing, "where is the colourful button? where where?" In fact, there was no colourful button, unless all the girls were colour-blind.

We finally reached our destination! We were about to go to the Hakka Round Houses. By the time we reached the place, it was about 7pm. Usually, the tour buses don't fetch people up there to the place that late. (it was a half an hour ride to the mountains) It was a bumpy ride and the bus driver would honk every single time he made a turn. This was to warn the vehicles in front that there was another vehicle turning. Since the turns were very abrupt, it was impossible to tell if there was a vehicle turning, hence the honk would be alert others up ahead.

Check out the ancient toilets :D

It was amazing to know how these beautiful structured buildings were purely made out of mud. These houses have lasted for hundreds and hundreds of years. Imagine that these round houses managed to outlast the tall skyscrapers during an earthquake!

The tour was an eye opener to all the students and we had a lot of fun checking out the knick knacks that the Hakka Round Houses villagers were selling. Limin bought some toys that reminded her of her childhood, yes, the nostalgia does return to all of us. (: I bought a cute bohemian bag and some sweet potato chips that made me return to the hotel with a sore throat.

After we returned back to the hotel, it was about 10pm, I decided to make a daring move, which is to DYE MY HAIR!! Ha, it was amusing because my friends were like, "dye your hair in Xiamen?"

Yupps yupps, initially I was disappointed as the colour did not show up during the first day. But now, the colour (which is Strawberry Pink) is pretty obvious! I really love how easy the Liese 3 step hair colour process was so easy! Although, I did make a boo-boo by not wearing gloves while I put the hair dye solution on my hands. Ugh, it stung so bad! But, other than that, everything went well!

Have to go off now! God bless!
